This Independence Day

School Thik Kro.

Every village has a government school. Too many of them still have no running water, a locked toilet, or a boundary wall that stopped mattering years ago. This isn't a funding problem anymore — it's a follow-up problem. Grab a checklist, walk over, and find out for yourself.

Why This Matters

Eighty years on, the basics still aren't a given

These are the everyday gaps that quietly decide whether a child stays in school — not headline numbers, just the things you'd notice in the first five minutes of a visit.

Water & toilets

A handpump that hasn't run in months. A toilet block that's locked "for safety" and never reopened.

Light & power

Classrooms with no working bulb or fan, and wiring nobody's checked since it was first put in.

Walls & safety

No boundary wall, no gate that locks, and a road right outside with no one watching who wanders in.

The Ask

A 3-step school audit, done by you

No forms to file, no committee to join. Just three things, done properly, at one school near you.

01

Get the checklist

Print the one-page audit sheet below, or scroll down and try the interactive version first to see exactly what you'll be looking for. It covers:

  • Drinking water and functioning toilets
  • Electricity, lighting and usable classrooms
  • Boundary walls and campus safety
  • Mid-day meals and teacher attendance
02

Walk the school, item by item

Visit a government school in your village or town, in person, and go down the list one item at a time. Photograph or film what you find — specifics travel further than adjectives:

  • A broken or permanently locked toilet door
  • A handpump or tap that doesn't run
  • An empty fire-extinguisher bracket
  • A classroom with no working light or fan
03

Hand it over, then say it out loud

A checklist that stays in a drawer doesn't fix anything. Make sure it's seen:

  • Submit the filled sheet and photos to the school and local panchayat office
  • Keep a copy for yourself and the person you're following up with
  • Share what you found publicly, tagged #SchoolThikKro
